The Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is recovering well after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer in the United States, his family has confirmed.
According to the family, the 66 year old underwent a robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy on Friday, 13 June at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The procedure, which lasted over four hours, was described as successful by his doctors.
In a statement issued on Monday, his wife, Professor Angela Ofori-Atta, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received from the public and religious leaders.
“Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been a very difficult period, especially with the Office of the Special Prosecutor choosing the days leading up to his surgery to issue a red alert against him,” she said.

Prof. Mrs. Ofori-Atta emphasized, despite the timing of the legal alert, her husband remains in high spirits and is focused on his recovery. The family has requested privacy during this time but said they are thankful for the many prayers, messages, and encouragement from Ghanaians.
Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to 2023. His health has been a matter of public interest since leaving office.
