Faith Meets Fun: Mamponteng Deanery Hosts Uniting Easter Games for Catholic Youth

Mamponteng Catholic Deanery Youth Picnic at OLAG, Mamponteng

In a vibrant show of unity, energy, and community spirit, the Catholic Youth of the Mamponteng Deanery in the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong organized a remarkable Easter Fun Games and Picnic on Easter Monday, 21st April 2025. The event was held at Our Lady of Grace Senior High School Sports Complex in Mamponteng in the Greater Kumasi and it attracted hundreds of young people, priests, seminarians, and parishioners from across the deanery.

The Mamponteng Deanery, which is made up of fifteen (15) parishes and rectorates, was divided into six zones for the purpose of the games. These zones were:

*Zone 1: Aboaso, Ntonso, Adangomase

*Zone 2: Wonoo, Dumanaafo

*Zone 3: Maase, Atimatim, Ahwia

*Zone 4: Fawoade, Bampenase, Mamponteng

*Zone 5: Kenyasi, Abirem, Bosore, Adwumam

*Zone 6: Seminarians and Priests

Each zone came prepared with their teams, colours, and unbreakable spirit.

The youth and their mentors took part in a variety of sporting and recreational activities including football, volleyball, table tennis, long tennis, indoor board games, and traditional Ghanaian games like ampe. What made the event particularly unique and exciting was the active participation of Catholic priests and seminarians in many of the games—playing alongside the youth, cheering them on, and strengthening the bond between church leaders and young parishioners.

Organisers of the event explained that the purpose of the celebration was not only to mark Easter with joy and fellowship but also to support the physical development of the youth. “The Church nourishes the soul, but we must also help the youth grow physically, emotionally, and socially,” said one of the deanery executives.

Throughout the day, there was singing, dancing, and powerful moments of reflection. It was more than a funfair; it was a space where faith met recreation, and where youth from different parishes could connect, share experiences, and build lasting friendships.

At the end of the event, winners in various competitions were celebrated, but the biggest victory of all was the sense of togetherness and renewed energy among the Catholic youth.

The Deanery leadership expressed gratitude to all the parishes, youth leaders, volunteers, and clergy who made the event a success. Many called for the games to become an annual tradition, citing its positive impact on youth involvement and spiritual growth.
