The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has directed a group of candidates who sat the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both school and private entrants to report for questioning over allegations of mass collusion.
In an official notice on Friday, 8th August 2025, WAEC said the named candidates are required to appear on assigned dates at designated locations specified alongside their names. The Council explained that the move forms part of efforts to conclude investigations into the alleged cheating incidents.
The Council stressed that the invitation is aimed at giving candidates the opportunity to assist in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the irregularities recorded during the examination.
WAEC further warned that failure to honour the invitation would not prevent the Council from reaching a final decision on the cases.
The investigation follows reports of coordinated malpractice during the examinations, though WAEC has not publicly disclosed the nature or scale of the alleged collusion.
The list of affected candidates and their reporting schedules has been published on the Council’s official website apart from the earlier invitation in July 2025, this latest summons is part of WAEC’s ongoing investigations into examination irregularities.
