Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, has inaugurated a newly constituted Governing Board for the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
The members of the FWSC Governing Board include the following: Samuel Adu-Yeboah as the Board Chairman; other members are Annis Moghthar Mohayideen, Hilda Ashie, Shadrack Mensah, Joyce Asiedu-Ofei, Dr. Prince E. Sarah, and Dr. George Smith-Graham.
In a brief address at the event, Dr. Pelpuo emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the public sector pay regime, particularly the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP).
He indicated that an equitable and sustainable wage structure would enhance productivity, promote good governance, and support macroeconomic stability.
Dr. Pelpuo acknowledged that managing the public wage bill within sustainable limits remains a challenge but appealed to the Board to help address this long-standing national concern.
He noted that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission Act, 2007, provides the framework for implementing public sector pay policies, excluding Article 71 office holders.
He congratulated the new Board on behalf of the President and urged them to approach this responsibility with the necessary dedication and attention.
Samuel Adu-Yeboah, the Board Chairman, thanked the Honourable Minister on behalf of the Board for the confidence reposed in them and pledged the Board’s commitment to serve Ghana and all workers who benefit directly from the FWSC’s work.
