Ghana’s Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment is launching a landmark survey in June 2025 to address the growing concern of qualification and skills mismatches in the workforce.
The Qualification and Skills Mismatches Survey (QSMS), to be carried out in partnership with the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), aims to collect data on over-education, under-education, and job-field mismatches across the country. It is the first nationally representative survey of its kind.
Speaking at a stakeholder forum in Accra, Labour Minister Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo said the findings will inform policies that align education and skills training with market demands.
“This data will help us streamline education and training with what industries actually need,” he said.
Enumerators are already being trained for the exercise. Authorities hope the results will help close the gap between what Ghanaians are taught and the skills employers require.
