Chelsea capped their shortened pre-season with a commanding 4–1 victory over AC Milan at Stamford Bridge. The Blues benefitted from an early own goal by Andrei Coubis which was orchestrated by Reece James’s dangerous free-kick and swiftly doubled their lead when João Pedro converted a pinpoint header marking his fifth goal in five games.
The match’s turning point came in the 18th minute as Coubis received a straight red card for bringing down Pedro on a breakaway virtually sealing Milan’s fate.
After halftime, a debutant Liam Delap came off the bench and immediately made an impact, scoring his first with a calm penalty after Estêvão won the spot kick, then added a second in stoppage time to seal the win.
Despite Youssouf Fofana’s consolation effort for Milan, Chelsea’s youthful lineup looked dynamic with Moises Caicedo dominating the midfield and Reece James delivering set-piece threats all afternoon. There was a brief moment of concern when Trevoh Chalobah rolled his ankle, though manager Enzo Maresca later clarified it was precautionary and he should be fit for the season opener.
This win doesn’t just signal a positive end to pre-season.
