Bodomase St. Stephen R/C Junior High School in the Sekyere Kumawu District has once again demonstrated leadership in educational innovation by successfully using an electronic voting system to elect its new school prefects for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The election, held on Thursday, 5 June 2025, was described by school officials as peaceful, transparent, and inclusive, setting a new benchmark for basic schools across Ghana. The initiative aligns with the school’s motto, Domus Scientiae (Home of Knowledge), and reflects its ongoing commitment to digital literacy and democratic education.

In all, 144 students cast their votes, with 54.9% being male and 45.1% female, drawn from JHS 1 to JHS 3. The turnout demonstrated strong student engagement and enthusiasm for the school’s democratic process.
Speaking after the polls, Mr. Lawrence Antwi, the Deputy Electoral Commissioner for the school, officially announced the results and warmly congratulated all elected prefects.

As names of the winning candidates were announced, students and supporters cheered with excitement, singing and celebrating the success of their preferred leaders. The lively scenes on campus highlighted the passion and involvement of the student body in the voting process.

The Electoral Commissioner Miss Patience Eghan congratulated students for conducting themselves in a manner that upheld the values of fairness and integrity.

Miss Patience Eghan then announced and introduced the elected Prefects officially to the School Community, congratulated them and advised the Prefects to work hard to uplift the image of the school.

The School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) of the Bodomase Circuit, Mr. George Konadu, who observed the election, praised the school for the successful conduct of the polls. He commended the Headmaster, staff, and pupils for what he described as a “truly innovative and inspiring initiative” that reflects the future of education in Ghana.
The school’s Headmaster, Jude Owusu Brefo who developed the electronic voting system for the school, explained that the platform has now been in use for five years and continues to prove its credibility and reliability.

“Bodomase St. Stephen R/C JHS is proud to be the first basic school to use an electronic voting (E-Voting) system. This is not just about electing leaders, it’s about shaping students into critical thinkers and active participants in the society,” Mr. Jude
The Headmaster emphasized, despite facing significant infrastructure challenges, no computer lab, no headmaster’s office, and no staff common room, the school continues to break barriers in educational technology. These limitations, however, have not hindered the creativity and innovation of the school’s leadership.
He then urged other basic schools to adopt similar innovations, emphasizing the importance of preparing students for a fast-changing, tech-driven world. He also extended his gratitude to staff members for supporting this initiative and contribution to its success.
The school’s digital voting system is seen as a pioneering model for how basic schools in Ghana can integrate technology into governance and civic education, empowering young learners through active engagement in democratic processes.
