At least 10 people have been confirmed dead, with 11 others injured, following a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday, December 14.

According to the New South Wales (NSW) Police, emergency services responded to reports of gunfire along Campbell Parade at approximately 6:45 p.m. local time.

“Ten people have been confirmed dead, including a man believed to be one of the shooters. The second alleged shooter is in a critical condition,”

Incident Occurred During Hanukkah Event

The shooting occurred as members of the Jewish community gathered for “Chanukah by the Sea,” a beachside festival attended by families and children.

Suspects in Custody

Police confirmed that two suspects connected to the incident are in custody. One alleged gunman died at the scene, while the second is receiving medical treatment under police guard.

NSW Police said several suspicious items were found nearby and are being examined by specialist officers. An exclusion zone has been established, and investigations remain ongoing.

Videos circulating on social media show victims lying on the ground while crowds fled the beach in panic. Other footage captures people taking cover behind tables and structures at nearby restaurants.

One witness reportedly filmed a gunman firing at bystanders from a bridge overlooking Bondi Beach.

Government Response

A spokesperson for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said authorities were aware of an active security situation and urged the public to follow official police instructions.

“We urge people in the vicinity to follow information from NSW Police,” the statement said.
