Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has unveiled a proposal for ‘AshantiFest,’ a week long celebration aimed at honoring and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Ashanti Region. The festival seeks to engage residents and visitors through a series of diverse activities that highlight the region’s traditions, health initiatives, sports, and arts.
The proposed itinerary includes a Cleanup Exercise to foster environmental responsibility and community pride. A Boxing Night featuring prominent national boxers is planned to celebrate athletic talent and entertain attendees. To address public health, a Free Health Screening and Blood Donation Exercise will be organized, encouraging community health awareness and support.
In an effort to engage citizens in regional development discussions, a Dialogue on Ashanti’s Development and an Open Forum with the Ashanti Regional Minister are scheduled. Sports enthusiasts can look forward to an Inter-District Soccer Gala, promoting unity and friendly competition among districts. An Excursion and Carnival at Lake Bosomtwe aims to showcase the region’s natural beauty and provide recreational activities.
The Ashanti Region Homecoming (Y33ko som) at Manhyia Palace is set to be a significant cultural event, reconnecting natives and celebrating heritage. A Local Food Bazaar will offer a platform for local cuisine, while the Celebration and Exhibition of Cultural Trades (Anwene3 Festival) will display traditional crafts such as Kente weaving, wood carving, and Adinkra symbols.
To support regional development projects, a fundraising event targeting specific facilities like hospitals or schools is planned. The festival also includes theatrical performances, with the ‘Kejetia vs. Makola’ and ‘Kumawood All Stars’ stage plays, reflecting the region’s vibrant arts scene. Additionally, a Spelling Bee competition for Ashanti Region Senior High Schools aims to promote education and academic excellence among youth.
Dr. Amoakohene’s initiative reflects a comprehensive approach to celebrating and advancing the Ashanti Region’s cultural and developmental aspirations. By integrating health, environment, sports, arts, and community engagement, AshantiFest aspires to foster unity, pride, and progress within the region.
