A tragic incident occurred at the Nana Konamansah Park during Matchweek 19 of the Ghana Premier League, where Nsoatreman FC hosted Asante Kotoko. Popular Asante Kotoko supporter, Nana Pooley, was stabbed to death following violent clashes between fans.
According to a statement released by the management of Asante Kotoko, their players, officials, and traveling supporters were subjected to open hostility from sections of the home fans. The club described the actions of Nsoatreman FC supporters as completely unacceptable, citing multiple instances where missiles were thrown at their bench, creating an unsafe environment.
Reports indicate that media personnel and supporters who traveled from Kumasi to cover and support Asante Kotoko also faced attacks. The violence escalated, leading to Nana Pooley being stabbed. He was rushed to the hospital but, unfortunately, did not survive.
The club has expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and has called for urgent action to ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans at league matches. They have urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and relevant authorities to investigate the incident and take the necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
