The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, is once again drawing attention to the financial activities of the current government.
Known for his controversial political revelations, Ablakwa has raised concerns over continued withdrawals from the national coffers long after the 13th African Games concluded in March 2024.
Ablakwa has been instrumental in identifying and preventing numerous instances of financial mismanagement and corruption during the Akuffo Addo/Bawumia regime. His interventions across various sectors have not only protected the nation’s financial resources but also promoted a culture of responsible governance.
While some think that he kept quiet during the periods his party was in power, others shower praise on his vigilante works.
In a twitter (now X) post, on his official account, the Okudzeto has hinted on substantial financial disbursements to the Ministry of Sports, totaling over GHS168 million in the weeks following the event All African Games held in Ghana. According to him the payments made under the description “Payment for 13th African Games,” include:
- May 17, 2024: GHS70 million
- July 3, 2024: GHS30 million
- July 16, 2024: GHS30 million
- July 16, 2024: GHS38.3 million
These withdrawals come on the heels of more than GHS460 million already released before the Games’ closing ceremony—an amount that reportedly exceeds what Parliament had approved.
Ablakwa’s statements suggest that these post-tournament disbursements are part of a broader issue that requires urgent explanation. He further emphasized that the continuous financial outflow raises questions, particularly as other sectors struggle with resource constraints amid what he refers to as worsening economic conditions.
Hon. Ablakwa alleges that the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has been avoiding answering questions in Parliament on the matter.
He cautions the Yagaba-Kubori Constituency Parliamentarian on a looming “day of reckoning saying:
“Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif keeps running from parliamentary accountability but let him know that his days are numbered. The day of reckoning is fast approaching.
For God and Country”
It is worthy of reminding readers that Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa has in the past uncovered “financial” related deals in government that have saved the Ghana some significant losses. These include:
