The GNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), was honored at the 3rd Edition of the Ghana CEO Awards held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra on Friday, July 26, 2024. This award recognizes the extensive social intervention programs executed by the GNPC Foundation across the country, aimed at enhancing the lives of Ghanaians.
The GNPC Foundation has been at the forefront of numerous social initiatives, which include offering of scholarships, constructing essential infrastructure, and providing vocational training. The foundation has awarded both local and foreign scholarships to Ghanaians, enabling them to pursue higher education at various tertiary institutions. These scholarships have opened doors for countless students, allowing them to achieve academic success and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
In addition to educational support, the GNPC Foundation has undertaken the construction of vital infrastructure projects. These projects include 160-bed dormitories, classroom blocks, sick bays, science laboratories, sanitary facilities, and AstroTurf sports fields. Such infrastructure developments have significantly improved the educational environment, sports and overall well-being of students across the country.
The GNPC Foundation’s commitment to community welfare is evident in its numerous initiatives aimed at improving living conditions. One notable project is the construction of thousands of boreholes, providing clean and accessible water to communities that previously faced water scarcity.
Moreover, the foundation has focused on vocational training for artisans through the provision of training and start-up tools, the GNPC Foundation has empowered many individuals to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys. These efforts not only promote self-sufficiency but also contribute to the broader economic development of Ghana.
The Executive Director, Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah, after receiving the award on behalf of the GNPC Foundation, expressed his gratitude to the organizers for recognizing the foundation’s significant contributions to CSR. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Eduah highlighted the foundation’s dedication to improving the quality of life for Ghanaians through strategic and impactful interventions. He praised the entire GNPC staff for their hard work and dedication, which have been instrumental in making the company’s CSR efforts successful and visible.
It was revealed at the ceremony that the GNPC Board of Directors have implemented a deliberate policy of allocating a substantial portion of the company’s oil revenue to CSR activities. This strategic decision highlights the company’s commitment to positively impacting the lives of Ghanaians.
