Lawyer Kwabena Boateng emerged victorious in the NPP primaries conducted on April 13, 2024, within the Ejisu Constituency of the Ashanti region in Ghana. A seasoned private legal practitioner, Boateng outshone eight other contenders, including former Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss Kwesi Nyantakyi, securing the NPP’s parliamentary candidacy for the forthcoming by-election.

Among the notable competitors were Helena Mensah, Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey, Portia Baffoe Abronye, Klinsman Karikari Mensah, Aaron Prince Duah, Dr. Evans Duah, and Yaa Gyamera Aboagye. Despite the competitive field, Boateng’s adept campaign strategy and widespread support propelled him to a decisive victory.

The Electoral Commission reported that Boateng garnered 394 votes out of a total of 1033 valid votes cast, firmly establishing his lead. Surprisingly, his closest rival, Madam Helena Mensah, trailed with 302 votes, followed by Yaa Gyamera Aboagye with 229 votes. Former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi lagged significantly, securing only 35 votes.

Initially, there was speculation that the remaining votes would be divided between Dr. Evans Duah and Boateng, potentially jeopardizing his chances. However, Dr. Evans Duah managed to gain only 63 votes, clearing the path for Boateng’s resounding victory over all contenders.

This primary election was held in preparation for the by-election in Ejisu, prompted by the unfortunate passing of the NPP Member of Parliament, Dr. John Kumah. In a statement to the press, Boateng expressed gratitude to the delegates for their trust and support, emphasizing his commitment to serving as an effective representative for the people of Ejisu if elected as MP.

Boateng dedicated his triumph to the memory of the late Dr. John Kumah, pledging to honor his legacy by advocating for the interests of the constituents with diligence and integrity. He assured the electorate of his dedication to promoting development initiatives and addressing the needs of the community, promising to uphold transparency and accountability in his role as a public servant.

As the NPP’s chosen candidate, Boateng embodies a beacon of hope for Ejisu, poised to usher in a new era of progress and prosperity. With his legal expertise and steadfast commitment to public service, Boateng stands ready to represent the aspirations and concerns of the people, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights protected.

Lawyer Kwabena Boateng’s victory in the NPP primaries signifies a watershed moment for the Ejisu Constituency, heralding a fresh chapter of dynamic leadership and inclusive governance. With a clear mandate from the electorate, Boateng is primed to lead Ejisu towards a brighter future, guided by principles of accountability, empathy, and unwavering dedication to the public good.

We eagerly await to witness the outcome of the By-Election scheduled to take place on the 30th of April, 2024.
