Sekyere Kumawu District Education Directorate is set to come alive with sporting excitement as the 2026 Annual Inter-School Sports Festival brings together young athletes from across the district from 9th to 13th November 2026. The five-day festival is expected to combine competitive sport, talent discovery, school pride and community unity under the theme “Talent Identification for a Brighter Future.”

The festival is being organised under the leadership of Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu, District Director of Education, as part of efforts to promote sports, discipline and holistic development among learners in the Sekyere Kumawu District. The programme is being supervised by the District PE Coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Nyadedzi, who is coordinating the sporting activities to ensure effective participation and smooth implementation across the various circuits.
The Sekyere-Kumawu District Education Directorate is organising the sports festival in partnership with the Sekyere-Kumawu District Assembly, the Office of the Member of Parliament for Kumawu and Kumawuman Community Bank PLC. The partnership brings together key stakeholders in education, local governance, parliamentary representation and community development to support sports and create opportunities for young people across the district.

The festival will be hosted across five circuits, with each circuit having a designated venue. The Kumawu Circuit will host its activities at Kumawu, the Bodomase Circuit at Bodomase, the Banko Circuit at Bankoman SHS, the Besoro Circuit at Besoro, and the Dadease Circuit at Dadease Agric SHS. The arrangement is expected to make participation accessible to schools across the district while promoting strong competition at the circuit level.

The sporting programme will feature football, volleyball and handball, with competitions organised in the Under-13 and Under-15 categories for Male and Female. The festival will provide young athletes from participating schools with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, build confidence, develop teamwork and compete in a disciplined and supportive environment, while giving teachers and sports officials the chance to identify promising talents for further development.

Beyond the sporting contests, the festival will introduce activities aimed at creating a vibrant atmosphere and strengthening school spirit. Participants will take part in “Rep Your Jersey Week” from Monday to Friday, while Jama sessions and cheer songs will provide additional entertainment and encourage schools to celebrate their teams and fellow competitors.

The collaboration among the District Education Directorate, District Assembly, Office of the Member of Parliament and Kumawuman Community Bank PLC emphasize the importance of collective support in promoting youth development through sports. With the slogan “Sports for Development and Unity,” the festival seeks to go beyond competition by promoting discipline, teamwork, friendship, healthy competition and the discovery of young people whose sporting abilities could contribute to the future of Ghanaian sports.

As the countdown to 9th November continues, schools, parents, teachers, sports enthusiasts and residents across Sekyere Kumawu are expected to rally behind the young athletes. The 2026 Annual Inter-School Sports Festival promises five days of exciting competition while creating a valuable platform to identify, nurture and develop the next generation of sporting talents in Sekyere Kumawu.
