The Kumawu District Education Directorate has qualified for the semi-final stage of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge (OCRC) after an impressive performance in the qualifying round.
Representing the Kumawu District, Randy Boakye Yiadom, a student of Bodomase St. Stephen R/C JHS, delivered an outstanding performance to secure victory over the Agogo District by a narrow margin of 0.1 point.
Randy Boakye Yiadom scored an impressive 95.1 points, while his competitor from Agogo District obtained 95.0 points. The close scoreline highlights the high level of competition among the participating districts and communities in the reading challenge.
The Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge is designed to promote a strong reading culture among young people while encouraging participants to develop their proficiency in both English and Asante Twi.
As part of the competition, participants are required to read passages in English Language and Asante Twi. The challenge assesses participants’ reading ability, fluency, pronunciation, comprehension and overall confidence.
Following the qualifying stages, 10 districts and communities will advance to the semi-final stage. These participants will compete for the opportunity to become part of the best five districts and communities that will proceed to the final round.
The grand finale is expected to be held at the Royal Palace of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in Kumasi, where the finalists will compete for the ultimate prize and recognition as the best-performing district or community in the competition.
The balloting for the semi-final stage will be conducted in due course, while the semi-final contest has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Kumawu is set to compete with Effiduase District for the semi-final contest.
With his remarkable performance in the qualifying round, Randy Boakye Yiadom has demonstrated determination, confidence and strong reading skills. His narrow victory over Agogo District has also generated excitement among education stakeholders and residents of the Kumawu District, who will be looking forward to seeing him represent the district in the next stage of the competition.
Randy is determined to go a step further and secure a place in the 2026 OCRC final. His performance has already put Kumawu District among the districts to watch as the competition progresses.
The Kumawu District Education Directorate, teachers, parents and supporters will undoubtedly be hoping that Randy maintains his impressive form in the semi-final and successfully leads the district to the grand finale.
