Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, remains a controversial figure in Ghana due to his role as CEO of the defunct gold investment firm Menzgold Ghana Limited.
Throw-back. Who Is NAM 1?
NAM 1 is a Ghanaian businessman who founded Menzgold Ghana Limited, a company that promised high monthly returns to investors but was shut down by regulators amid fraud allegations. List of other companies the were found to belong to NAM 1 are : Brew Marketing Consult Co. Limited, Zylofon Media Company Limited, Narosa Hotel, Menzgold Espana (located in Spain), Cheetah Security Co. Limited, T.I.A Holdings (USA), Brew Energy Company Limited, Brew Realty Company Limited.
Since 2018, NAM 1 has been at the centre of legal battles both in Ghana and abroad.
Latest Court Update (2026)
In early February 2026, a High Court in Accra directed NAM 1 to file his witness statement by February 9, as part of his ongoing trial. NAM 1 had put forward a bit to stop his trial at the Supreme Court. This was dismissed by the court. The court the requested that Mr. Appiah Mensah files his witness statement statement by February, 2026.
During the court session, NAM 1 testified that his company obtained a licence to operate from relevant regulators. The prosecution, however, disputes this and continues to argue its case. The matter has been adjourned to a later date for continuation.
What Charges Is NAM Facing?
NAM 1 and his companies, including Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult, are facing multiple criminal counts, such as:
- Defrauding by false pretence
- Money laundering
- Operating a deposit-taking business without a licence
These charges were brought after the state withdrew older charges and filed new ones in late 2023.
Is NAM 1 on Bail Now?
Yes. NAM 1 is currently on personal bail while the case continues, and he has denied all charges.
Meanwhile, victims of the collapsed company have repeatedly expressed frustration and disappointment as they struggle to recover locked-up funds. Some witnesses in court have testified that they believe Menzgold may have extorted money from customers, and efforts to recover funds have not succeeded.
Where NAM 1 Now?
As of fFebruary, 2026, NAM 1 is in Ghana and attending court proceedings. No credible reports suggest that he is evading trial. He remains involved in legal defence and continues to appear in court sessions.
