National JHS Science and Maths Quiz Debuts in 2025, Scheduled for 1st – 6th December

Students representing their schools in the maiden National JHS Science and Maths Quiz 2025 in Ghana.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the launch of the first-ever National Junior High School Science and Maths Quiz (JSMQ), marking a major milestone in Ghana’s STEM education landscape. The maiden edition of national contest is scheduled for 1st to 6th December 2025.

This new competition expands a tradition previously reserved for Senior High Schools, bringing national-level science and mathematics engagement to the JHS level for the first time in Ghana’s history.

According to a circular issued by the Schools and Instructions Division of GES, regional champions from across the country have received approval to participate in the national contest. The initiative aims to nurture early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among young learners while strengthening problem-solving and innovation skills.

GES noted that each qualified school will be represented by four contestants and three teachers. Selected schools will receive transportation from regional centres to the venue, along with food and full coordination support throughout the six-day programme.

Regional, District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Directors have been directed to ensure that all invited schools participate and that the contest does not disrupt academic preparation.

GES emphasized that the introduction of a national-level JHS quiz represents a strategic investment in building the next generation of scientists, innovators, and critical thinkers.
