Antony has revealed he turned down a late but very lucrative offer from Bayern Munich even after a personal call from Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, who told him he had “always loved” his game.
According to Antony, the Bayern approach came just as his move to Real Betis was nearly sealed at “95% certain” but he insisted on keeping his word.
Bayern reportedly doubled his wage offer in the final hours of the summer window, yet Antoni remains calm and grounded about rejecting it.
He explained to COPE radio that his loyalty stems from more than a contract and “Out of respect, out of love … because I know I am very happy here.”
For Antony, Betis isn’t just a club but it’s where he found himself again, rediscovered his joy in football, and feels truly at home.
This move wasn’t just professional but deeply personal, his family especially his son played a major role in his choice to stay in Seville.
He signed a long-term deal with Betis through 2029/2030, which highlighted his commitment.
Antony’s decision is being hailed as a rare example of principle over profit in modern football.
He admitted that while big clubs are tempting, what matters most for him is respect, belonging, and “happiness every day.”
According to Anthony, he didn’t just join Betis but he came home.
