The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced plans to introduce basic military training for all National Service Personnel (NSPs), starting in August 2025. The initiative, known as the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP), aims to instill discipline, promote nationalism, and enhance physical fitness among young graduates.
The announcement follows high-level discussions held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, between NSA management and the Military High Command in Accra. The new programme aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to reorient the nation’s youth, a commitment he emphasized during his maiden State of the Nation Address in Parliament on 27th February 2025.
Director-General of the NSA, Mr. Felix Gyamfi, stressed the importance of the programme in nurturing responsible citizens who are ready to contribute meaningfully to national development. “The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth,” he said.
Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye of the Ghana Armed Forces pledged the military’s full support and readiness to provide the necessary training infrastructure and personnel.
Set to begin on 3rd August 2025, the training will span up to two months and will include basic drills, emergency response preparedness, and leadership orientation.
The initiative has already sparked widespread conversation, with supporters praising it as a timely move to build resilience and a sense of duty in Ghana’s youth.
