World Bank Pledges to Support Ghana’s Economy

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson (MP), the Minister for Finance, has announced the World Bank’s commitment and readiness to support Ghana’s economy.

Wencai Zhang, the Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the World Bank Group, paid a visit to Ghana’s Minister for Finance at the Finance Ministry on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Reports indicate that their engagement focused on deepening cooperation between Ghana and the World Bank in critical sectors of the Ghanaian economy, including agriculture, transportation, and energy.

During the meeting, Dr. Ato Forson appealed to the World Bank for continued support in these sectors, which he emphasized as essential to the country’s long-term economic growth and development.

Information received suggests that Dr. Ato Forson proposed the establishment of a World Bank regional hub in Ghana to enhance collaboration and facilitate the timely implementation of development projects.

In response to the Minister’s appeal, Mr. Zhang reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment and pledged support for Ghana, particularly in agriculture, which he identified as a key focus area for the institution.

It was also disclosed that the World Bank is currently working on initiatives aimed at boosting Ghana’s energy sector.
