Europe’s elite gathered in Monaco for the highly anticipated UEFA Champions League league-phase draw on Thursday, 28 August 2025, marking the unveiling of opponents for the second season under the revamped 36-team, “league phase” format.
The ceremony shall be held at the Grimaldi Forum as its commenced at 18:00 CEST equivalent to 5 PM UK time as well as 4 pm Ghana time and shall be broadcast live across numerous platforms including talkSPORT, UEFA.com, TNT Sports, Amazon Prime Video, and Movistar Plus+ in Spain.
Thirty-six clubs comprising heavyweight names like Paris Saint-Germain (defending champions), Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and newly returned Newcastle along with debutants Union Saint-Gilloise entered the draw. They were divided into four seeding pots, from which a computer-assisted algorithm paired each club with two opponents from each pot, carefully enforcing restrictions and no team would face more than two opponents from the same national association.
The draw sets up the league phase, where each team will play eight matches four at home and four away across Matchdays 1 to 8, running from mid-September to late January. The season culminates in the knockout stages and the final in Budapest next May, where clubs will vie for one of European football’s most prestigious trophies.
