In a post on his official Facebook (now Meta) page, Peter Okoye, one half of the iconic music duo P-SQUARE, has finally publicly addressed ongoing tensions with his brother Paul Okoye. Peter’s message which many consider emotional comes in response to numerous interviews his brother Paul also known as Rudeboy has granted where he has allegedly discredited Peter’s contributions to their shared musical journey.
Peter begins by clarifying that he is not in competition with Paul or anyone else, but expresses disappointment over Paul’s repeated attempts to undermine his efforts. He mentions Paul’s claims of being the primary creative force behind P-SQUARE’s success, citing that Paul has taken credit for writing and singing 99% of their songs, while dismissing Peter’s contributions.
One specific point of contention is the song “EjeaJo,” which Peter claims to be the writer. Paul has reportedly labeled the track a failure, using its YouTube views as evidence. However, Peter swiftly reminded his brother of their other successful hits like “Get-Squared,” “Bizzy Body,” “Personally,” “Roll It,” and many more, asking if those were also considered failures.
Many are of the view that Peter’s post is a revelation of a growing frustration with Paul’s narrative, which often excludes Peter’s role in P-SQUARE’s achievements. Peter has emphasized that while neither of them may be the most talented artists in the world, it was their combined efforts that made P-SQUARE a force to be reckoned with. The fans, Peter argues, fell in love with the duo because of their unity and unique dynamic talents, not because of who sang or danced the most.
In the post, Peter also touches on the damage caused by their previous breakup, suggesting that instead of working together to reclaim their spot at the top of the music industry, Paul has chosen to marginalize and humiliate him. He accuses Paul of teaming up with their brother Jude to dominate the group, all while portraying himself as the sole contributor to P-SQUARE’s success.
In a poignant moment, Peter questions the true gain in Paul’s actions, highlighting the lack of support and the continuous disrespect he’s endured. He points out that as solo artists, neither Rudeboy nor Mr. P has achieved the same level of success as they did together as P-SQUARE. He laments the loss of their ability to sell out arenas, top music charts, and entertain massive crowds as they once did.
Peter ends his post on a somber note, expressing that the ongoing feud has not only hurt him but also disappointed their fans. He appeals for peace, asking for the space to focus on his music without further conflict.
He also hints at addressing the ongoing EFCC matter, asking fans to stay tuned.
