The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that a total of 603,328 pupils across Ghana will sit for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which runs from Wednesday, 11th June to Wednesday, 18th June 2025.
According to WAEC, candidates will come from 20,395 schools nationwide, with 297,250 boys and 306,078 girls registered with regional breakdown.

This year again sees a higher number of female candidates, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve gender parity in education.
WAEC emphasized, BECE is a major stepping stone for Junior High School pupils, as their performance will determine placements into Senior High Schools, Technical and Vocational institutions, through the Free SHS and TVET placement systems.
WAEC then urged all parents, teachers, and school communities to rally behind the candidates as they make their final preparations. WAEC also congratulated schools and Opinion leaders who have intensified revision sessions and counselling to help candidates overcome exam anxiety.
“This is a critical moment for over 600,000 young Ghanaians. We encourage every candidate to stay focused and believe in their hard work,” WAEC.
WAEC assures the public of its preparedness to deliver a smooth and credible examination, and calls on all stakeholders to maintain a peaceful and supportive environment during the examination period.
