Viral Video: Young Nigerian Soldier, Yerima Boldy Faces Minister Wike in Heated Abuja Encounter

A young Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, has become an internet sensation after a video showing his calm but firm confrontation with Minister Nyesom Wike during a land dispute in Abuja’s Gaduwa District went viral.

The incident occurred on November 11, 2025, when officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), led by Minister Wike, visited Plot 1946 to enforce a demolition order on an allegedly illegal structure linked to a retired naval officer, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.

Upon arrival, the minister’s convoy was stopped by armed soldiers stationed at the site. Lt. Yerima, who led the team, reportedly stood his ground under mounting pressure, citing military orders to protect the property pending official clarification.

The encounter quickly became tense when the Minister seen in the viral video demanded that the young soldier “shut up” and stand down. In the now-viral video, Lt. Yerima can be heard calmly responding:

“I will not shut up, Sir. I am an officer. I have integrity.”

The exchange has since sparked widespread admiration across Nigeria and beyond. Thousands of social media users have praised the young officer for displaying professionalism, discipline, and courage under political intimidation.

One facebook post on the video says:

“In the presence of power, he stood for the law. Nigeria needs more officers like Lt. Yerima.”

Analysts say the incident has reignited national conversations about respect for the armed forces, civil-military relations, and the rule of law.

While the FCTA insists the demolition was legal, military sources say the soldiers acted under superior instructions pending resolution of the land’s ownership status.
