The United States has donated 14 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in a move aimed at bolstering security along Ghana’s vulnerable northern borders and strengthening bilateral defence ties.
The vehicles were formally handed over at a ceremony held at the 153 Armoured Regiment, Abuga Square, Burma Camp in Accra. The U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, underscored the strategic importance of the donation, given the increasing insecurity in the Sahel region.

She reiterated the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting Ghana through sustained military partnerships, capacity-building, and defence equipment to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.
Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who received the vehicles on behalf of the government, expressed deep appreciation to the U.S., assuring that the APCs would be deployed efficiently and maintained to extend their operational life.
The gesture is expected to enhance Ghana’s peacekeeping roles and counterterrorism efforts, especially in the face of evolving threats in West Africa.
