The Ministry of Information is pleased to announce that preparations towards the inauguration of the President-elect, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, are underway and progressing steadily.
The release indicated that a significant number of Heads of State and foreign dignitaries have confirmed their attendance at the presidential inauguration ceremony. The numbers are as follows:
- 21 Heads of State from Africa and beyond
- 3 Vice Presidents
- 4 Ministers
- 24 envoys
The letter appreciated the overwhelming support and solidarity from the international community and expressed eagerness to welcome the dignitaries.
Press Accreditation
According to the letter, press accreditation for coverage of the presidential inauguration is ready for pick-up. All journalists, including international press representatives who applied for accreditation, are to collect their passes from the office of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) today, January 6, 2025. This accreditation is mandatory for all journalists, photographers, and videographers who wish to cover the event.
Live Production
It was emphasized that the production of the inauguration ceremony will be centralized to ensure a high-quality and seamless broadcast experience. Feed will be supplied to various television channels. Media organizations that require feed must have a minimum internet speed of 4 Mbps at rtmp://live.restream.io/pull/play200118102fb462ac3b8dd470fce. For feeds with graphics, a minimum internet speed of 6 Mbps is required.
Temporary Road Closures in Accra
To ensure a secure and smooth presidential inauguration ceremony, some roads in Accra will be closed temporarily.
Affected Areas:
a) Parliament House
- Osu T/L to Parliament House
- AU Roundabout
- Any access road to the Parliament area from EC to the middle of Parliament House
- Security area at Parliament House
- Road from Osu Cemetery to Parliament
Traffic will be open only to Parliamentarians, workers at Parliament, and their vehicles.
b) Independence Square
- 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters to Castle Road Junction
- Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on Lokko Street
- Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light
- Starlet 91 Road, closed at the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection
c) Traffic Diversion
- Traffic from the 28th February Road emanating from La, Labone, and Osu toward the Central Business District (CBD) will be diverted onto Salem Avenue at the Castle Traffic Light to link with Oxford Street.
- Traffic from John Evans Atta Mills High Street toward Black Star Square will be diverted onto Liberia Road at the CEPS Headquarters Traffic Light to the National Theatre Traffic Light Intersection.
- Motorists from Lokko Street toward Castle Road should use Ajumaku Street and Oxford Street.
- Traffic from AU Circle toward Castle Road through Osu Cemetery Traffic will be diverted onto Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads to link with Abdul Nassar Gamel Road in front of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Date and Time: January 7, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
The temporary road closures are necessary to facilitate the safe passage of dignitaries and the general public attending the inauguration ceremony. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and follow traffic directives from security personnel.
A sincere apology was extended for any inconvenience this may cause, along with appreciation to the general public for their cooperation in ensuring a successful inaugural ceremony.
