The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho has officially been renamed the John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the university’s newly constituted Governing Council at the Ministry of Education on Thursday.
The renaming honours the memory and legacy of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who played a pivotal role in the establishment of UHAS. President Mills, remembered for his humility and dedication to public service, was a strong advocate for health and education as twin pillars of national development.
Professor Kodzo Gavua, Chair of the Governing Council, welcomed the decision and pledged the Council’s continued commitment to promoting academic excellence, innovation, and service to the nation.
“This is a fitting tribute to a leader who championed human development and laid the foundation for institutions that continue to serve Ghana’s future,” Prof. Gavua said.
The newly renamed JEA Mills UHAS remains a premier institution for the training of health professionals in Ghana and across the region, offering programmes in medicine, nursing, public health, and biomedical sciences.
