UNESCO Ghana Delivers ICT Tools to Ministry of Education in Support of TeOSS Project

United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Ghana has delivered ICT tools to the Ministry of Education, Ghana, in support of the Technology Enabled Open School System for All (TeOSS) project. The official handover of the ICT equipment from UNESCO Ghana was led by their Country Representative and Head of Office, Edmond Moukala, at the Ministry of Education. The ICT equipment was received by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education.

The TeOSS project aims to bolster educational technology infrastructure and expand inclusive learning opportunities through ICT. The initiative’s core objective is to enhance learning outcomes and foster the acquisition of essential 21st-century skills in basic schools while ensuring education continuity during emergencies.

Reports indicated that, at the piloting phase, ten schools were selected to benefit from this project. The benefitting schools are Enchi Catholic Basic, Akropong School for the Blind, Teshie Salem Presby A Primary, Nsoatre T.I Ahmadiyya Model School, Akatsi No.1 Basic School, Elmina Methodist Junior High School, Wa Municipal Model Junior High School, among others.

It was stated that, the partnership with agencies under the Ministry of Education, namely the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS) and the Ghana Education Service, each school received a comprehensive set of ICT tools. This includes a multimedia interactive smart board, 28 tablets, tablet screen protectors and covers, a charging trolley, a smart UPS, six months of data, a router, a Wi-Fi repeater, an iBox, and two extension cables per school.

Mr. Edmond Moukala stated at the ceremony that UNESCO Ghana is always ready to support in any way possible to enhance educational activities in Ghana. He highlighted that the provision of these ICT tools is a significant step towards creating a more robust educational framework that can withstand challenges and provide continuous learning opportunities for all students, regardless of their location or circumstances.

Dr. Osei Adutwum expressed his profound appreciation on behalf of the Ministry to UNESCO Ghana for such a timely presentation of ICT tools to enhance education in Ghana. Dr. Adutwum emphasized that integrating ICT into the education system is about equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in a technology-driven world.

Furthermore, Dr. Adutwum reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the ICT tools are used effectively and sustainably to maximize their impact. He noted that training programs would be organized for teachers to equip them with the necessary skills to integrate these tools into their teaching practices effectively. This, he believes, will lead to improved student engagement and better educational outcomes.
