Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has made a humble appeal to the people of Bawku and neighbouring communities to end the ongoing violence in the area.
This appeal was made on Saturday, April 26, 2025, during the 29th Congregation of UEW.
In his address, Neenyi Ghartey VII said he was speaking not only in his capacity as Chancellor but also as a concerned citizen of Ghana.
Bawku, he emphasized, is a land rich in culture, strength, and resilience, and its people have long been known for their industrious spirit.
The Chancellor indicated that with the emergence of the conflict in Bawku, families have been torn apart, children are unable to attend school, and livelihoods are crumbling.
“We cannot educate a nation while part of it burns; we cannot and must not allow this to continue,” he said.
The Chancellor urged all stakeholders to help silence the guns and raise loud voices calling for unity and peace to prevail.
Conflict only brings suffering and destruction, he added.
The Chancellor concluded by stressing that education in Ghana must be holistic and that the nation cannot afford to let any part burn due to conflict, and not forgetting the adverse impact on the people.
