Former U.S. President Donald Trump says he is not worried about talks of a recession. He believes the economy is just going through a “transition period” and will be fine in the long run.
In an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press in the U.S, Trump said:
“Even if we have a recession now, the economy is going to be OK.”
He also repeated this message on his social media page, Truth Social.
Trump is asking the U.S. Federal Reserve to reduce interest rates so the economy can grow faster.
Meanwhile, recent data shows mixed signs. The U.S. economy went down by 0.3% in the first three months of 2025. This is the first drop in GDP in three years. Many experts say this is because of new tariffs that made companies buy more goods before the rules started.
Even though job growth slowed a bit in April, people are still spending, and businesses are still investing.
However, a new poll by experts shows that public support for Trump is dropping. His approval rating is now 42%, down by five points since he returned to office.
Trump is still confident. He says the U.S. economy will perform “fantastically” in the future.
