The Royal Vision and Power of Reading: Grand Finale of Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge 2025

The much-anticipated Grand Finale of the 4th Edition of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge (OCRC) will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the magnificent Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Hall within the Manhyia Palace. The event begins promptly at 10:00 a.m.

This year’s edition promises an inspiring display of brilliance and eloquence as five outstanding Junior High School Students, who triumphed at the Regional knockout stages, compete for the ultimate reading crown.

The competition, held under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, continues to serve as a beacon of hope and a platform for nurturing reading culture, academic excellence, and moral discipline among young learners.

In attendance will be chiefs, education directors, clergy, teachers, parents, students, and other dignitaries, all united by a shared commitment to literacy and youth empowerment. The event is expected to be both colourful and intellectually stimulating.

The 2024 champion hailed from Boamang, but this year’s contest is wide open. The big question remains: will Kunsu, Mampong, Kwadaso, Twedie, or Obuasi produce the next OCRC Champion?

Organisers have described the OCRC as more than a competition—it is a movement that seeks to raise a new generation of confident readers who think critically and communicate effectively. The challenge has become a model for promoting literacy and cultural pride in schools across Asanteman and beyond.

In a remarkable show of support, Rev. Fr. Peter Kusi Twumasi, a Catholic Priest of Bodomase, has composed a special song in honour of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge. The song celebrates the foresight and leadership of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, while urging students to embrace reading as the path to wisdom and national development.

Rev. Fr. Twumasi featured Randy Boakye Yiadom, the Kumawu Champion who was eliminated at the semi-final stage of this year’s contest. Together, they delivered a powerful collaboration that blends faith, rhythm, and education — a musical tribute inspiring young learners to read with passion and purpose.

As the OCRC slogan proudly declares:
“OCRC – Reading makes you brilliant.”
“OCRC – Akenkan bɛma wo ayɛ nimdefoɔ.”
