The Members of Parliament in the Ashanti Region have convened a meeting for the first time to unite and advocate for the region’s development.

According to reports, the meeting brought together both former and current Members of Parliament from the Ashanti Region.

Among the MPs present were Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency and Majority Leader of the NPP; Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency; Hon. Davis Ansah Opoku, Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency; Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency, among others.

The meeting, dubbed the Kumasi Bloc, aimed to push for development beyond party lines and individual political interests.

At the maiden Kumasi Dialogue, the MPs emphasized the urgent need to tackle Kumasi’s biggest challenges, including poor urban planning, unemployment, inefficient waste management, and recurring market fires.

Other key priorities include:

  • Fast-tracking the Accra-Kumasi Highway for smoother trade and investment.
  • Improving urban planning and infrastructure to prevent disasters.
  • Creating jobs and boosting economic opportunities for the people of Kumasi.

This is not just mere talk but an avenue to immediately take the necessary actions to ensure Kumasi gets its fair share of national development! Let’s rise and build together,” the MPs emphasized.
