The Sekyere-Kumawu District Assembly has taken a major step towards strengthening science and technology education with the distribution of BSTEM Kit Packs to 11 Junior High Schools in the district.
The presentation was made on Thursday, 22 January 2025, at Kumawu by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa, on behalf of the Government and the Minister of Education, as part of efforts to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education at the basic school level.
Each beneficiary school received a BSTEM Pack made up of 13 boxes labelled A to M, containing a wide range of teaching and learning materials, including science and mathematics equipment, robotics tools, laptops, projectors, speakers, calculators, teacher boards, mini chalk slates, chemicals, magnesium ribbon and other essential laboratory items.
The beneficiary schools were Abotanso D/A JHS, Kumawu Presby JHS, Besoro D/A JHS, Temante Methodist JHS, Bodomase St. Stephen R/C JHS, Bodomase D/A JHS, Aninangya Basic School, Asekyerewa D/A JHS, Bodwease D/A JHS, Akrofoso D/A JHS and Banko D/A JHS.
Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa in his address, urged the District Education Director, Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu, and the Headteachers of the beneficiary schools to make effective use of the items and ensure their proper maintenance. He stressed that the kits were meant to improve practical teaching, stimulate innovation and help students develop critical scientific and technological skills.
Receiving the items on behalf of the district, Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu expressed profound gratitude to the Government, the Minister of Education and the District Assembly for the support. He described the intervention as timely and essential for strengthening STEM education in basic schools across the district.
The District Education Director pledged that the Education Directorate would work closely with the beneficiary schools to ensure the equipment is put to good use for the benefit of students. He also appealed for additional kits to be extended to other Junior High Schools in the district to ensure wider access to quality STEM education.
The initiative forms part of Ghana’s broader agenda to promote science and technology education, equip young learners with practical skills, and prepare them for future careers in innovation, engineering and digital technology.
