St. Stephen Catholic Rectorate in Bodomase marked this year’s Mother’s Day with a heartfelt and meaningful celebration, honouring the love, resilience, and unwavering devotion of mothers in the community.
The programme was led by Rev. Fr. Peter Kusi Twumasi, Rector of the church and main celebrant of the day. Drawing from scripture and spiritual wisdom, Fr. Twumasi likened the love of mothers to the sacrificial care of the Good Shepherd and the compassion of the Good Samaritan.
“Just as a good shepherd puts the needs of his flock before his own, mothers often sacrifice their own desires and dreams for their children,” he said during his homily, quoting Saint Teresa of Calcutta: “A mother is not a person to lean on, but a person to make leaning unnecessary.”
Fr. Twumasi also shared a personal reflection that touched many hearts:
“I remember my own mother, who taught me the value of kindness and compassion. She showed me that even in the smallest acts, we can make a big difference. One story that stands out is how she would volunteer at the local soup kitchen, serving meals to those in need. Her selflessness inspired me to follow in her footsteps.”
Speaking to J.O. Brefo of GH EDUCATE News, Rev. Fr. Twumasi explained that the purpose of the programme was to celebrate mothers not only with words but with concrete actions that uplift their spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being. He emphasised that such initiatives help build stronger Christian families and communities rooted in love and gratitude.
The event combined spiritual devotion with joyful fellowship. Programme highlights included:
Health Screening – Ensuring mothers’ health is prioritised.
Women Empowerment Session – Offering guidance on leadership, confidence, and faith.
Eucharistic Celebration – A sacred act of thanksgiving for the gift of motherhood.
Games and Get-Together – Strengthening bonds through fun and interaction.
Cooking and Sharing Meals – Celebrating culture and unity through food.
The day concluded with special prayers for all mothers, asking God to bless them with joy, peace, strength, and the wisdom to continue nurturing families with love.
I wish all mothers Happy Mother’s Day
