Shatta Wale Detained Amid Lamborghini Tax Probe

SHATTA WALE

Ghanaian dancehall sensation Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, was detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on August 20, 2025. The detention comes amid an evolving investigation into the tax liabilities and potential money-laundering associated with a yellow Lamborghini Urus previously seized by EOCO.

According to official statements issued by his management, the artist voluntarily presented himself at EOCO’s offices, accompanied by his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, in the hopes of cooperating with authorities. His legal team indicated that discussions are ongoing and that they aim to secure his release at the earliest opportunity.

This move follows earlier developments in early August, when EOCO, working in tandem with the U.S. FBI, seized the luxury vehicle as part of a growing transnational fraud probe. The vehicle is suspected to be linked to proceeds of a wider criminal enterprise, spanning both tax irregularities and money-laundering activities.

The detention has sparked intense online conversation, with supporters dubbed the “SM Family” urged by management to stay calm and refrain from speculation. The legal team plans to return to EOCO the following day to proceed with the inquiry.
