In a purposeful and revealing mission, Rev. Seth Duodu Abedi, Education Director of the Sekyere Presbytery returned to the Kumawu District for a second official visit on May 14, 2025 just a month after his initial engagement on April 11. This time, he was joined by the charismatic Kumawu District Education Chairperson Mr. Boakye Amponsah, widely known in education circles as “OgaLee.”
The focal point of their visit was the remote but resilient schools in Drobonso, where they conducted a deep dive into both academic performance and the harsh realities of rural education. What they discovered was both inspiring and concerning.
Exercise books, class registers, schemes of learning, and teachers’ attendance books were carefully inspected. But beyond the paperwork, Rev. Abedi and Mr. Boakye Amponsah immersed themselves in the real story and also engaged directly with learners and educators. The students, particularly in the Primary and JHS levels were commended for their remarkable dedication despite limited resources. Their spirit shone through and it didn’t go unnoticed.
However, the visit also uncovered critical gaps. Teachers voiced pressing concerns over the lack of basic infrastructure, including urinal facilities and staff accommodation. These issues which has been long standing and neglected, were brought to the fore for immediate advocacy and support. Adding urgency to the visit was a meeting with Catechist Ohwefo Darkwah, who raised the alarm over the encroachment of school lands by market vendors and local individuals. In response, Rev. Abedi proposed the installation of protective wire fencing as a proactive measure to safeguard the school’s future space. The day ended on a high note with group photographs that captured not just the teachers and learners but the purpose, passion, and promise of change.
Rev. Abedi and Kumawu education chairperson Mr. Boakye Amponsah widely known as “OgaLee” visit was more than symbolic but a call to action. It highlighted the brilliance of young minds battling systemic neglect and the dedication of teachers working under difficult conditions. His message was clear that indeed, education deserves attention, investment, and respect.
