President Mahama Threatens to Sack Appointees Over Asset Declaration Failures

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that any government appointee who fails to declare their assets by close of day on Wednesday, 7 May 2025, will be immediately dismissed from office.

This comes after the President earlier directed that those who missed the original 31 March deadline would forfeit three months’ salary, with one month’s pay to be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as Mahama Cares.

The action is part of a broader effort to enforce the new Code of Conduct for Political Appointees, which was launched earlier this week to promote transparency and accountability in public service. The Code mandates asset declarations, restricts high-value gifts above GH¢20,000, and prohibits the purchase of state assets by appointees.

President Mahama reiterated that these rules apply to all public officials, including himself, the Vice President, and the Chief of Staff. He also announced the creation of a public portal for citizens to report any violations of the Code.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, which will benefit from the salary forfeitures, was established to support patients battling chronic conditions such as kidney failure, cancer, and heart disease.
