President Mahama Swears In Newly Appointed Military Service Commanders

H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the President of Ghana, has sworn in the recently appointed military service commanders as members of the Armed Forces Council.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Ministry of Defence on Friday, April 25, 2025, in Accra.

The newly sworn-in officers are Major General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff; Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, Chief of Air Staff; Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Chief of Army Staff; and Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, Chief of Naval Staff.

Information received indicated that, prior to the swearing-in event, there were some meetings of the Armed Forces Council to consider several issues, including promotions and the retooling of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The event was attended by other members of the Armed Forces Council, the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka; and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Also in attendance were the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama; the Presidential Advisor; and the Special Aide to the President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari.
