His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, acting on the advice of the Armed Forces Council, has, effective today, 24th March 2025, promoted the incoming Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, and the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to the release, these promotions, made ahead of the final handing over by the outgoing administration of the Ghana Armed Forces, usher in the following Commissioned Officers:
- Major General William Agyapong – Chief of Defence Staff
- Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu – Chief of Army Staff
- Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing – Chief of Naval Staff
- Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong – Chief of Air Staff
- Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai – Chief of Staff
In the letter, the President extends his best wishes to the newly appointed Chiefs of the Ghana Armed Force — appointed by the President in consultation with the Council of State—for a successful tenure. He urges them to serve with loyalty, diligence, and patriotic courage, working as a united team to protect and defend the nation.
