President John Dramani Mahama has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Pope Francis, describing him as a humble and compassionate leader who stood for justice and humanity.
In a message written in the book of condolence, President Mahama conveyed his personal admiration and expressed deep condolences to the global Catholic community, especially in Ghana.

He fondly recalled a memorable audience with Pope Francis during a visit to the Vatican alongside his wife, Lordina Mahama. The President described the encounter as a moment of deep honor and inspiration.
Highlighting the Pope’s legacy of humility, compassion, and advocacy for the poor, Mahama noted that Pope Francis’ leadership will continue to guide people of faith and conscience across the world.

The President also offered prayers for the Conclave, urging divine guidance in choosing a worthy successor. In a hopeful nod to Ghana’s own clergy, he added that Cardinal Appiah Turkson, would make a good Pope.
