H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the President of Ghana, has nominated 71 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.
A statement issued on Wednesday, March 26, announced the first set of 71 MMDCEs nominations across eight regions.
The nominations are subject to approval by the respective Local Assemblies.
Eight out of Ghana’s 16 regions have received nominations for their Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
Breakdown of MMDCE nominations by region:
- Volta Region: 17 persons nominated out of 18 districts
- Bono East Region: 9 persons nominated out of 9 districts
- Savannah Region: 5 persons nominated out of 5 districts
- North East Region: 6 persons nominated out of 6 districts
- Western North Region: 9 persons nominated out of 9 districts
- Oti Region: 9 persons nominated out of 9 districts
- Ahafo Region: 6 persons nominated out of 6 districts
- Bono Region: 10 persons nominated out of 10 districts
