President John Dramani Mahama met today with representatives from various civil society organisations to advance discussions on the formation of a Governance Advisory Council—a major campaign commitment aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in Ghana’s public affairs.
The proposed council will serve as an independent watchdog, tasked with monitoring human rights, corruption, and overall governance standards in the country. It is envisioned as a non-partisan body that will uphold democratic values and help safeguard public trust.
As part of its mandate, the council will publish an annual report detailing the state of governance in Ghana, including assessments of human rights protections and efforts to combat corruption.
President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to building a government that is open, accountable, and rooted in the principles of justice and integrity.
“I am committed to creating a transparent, accountable government that reflects the values of our beloved country,” he stated.
The meeting marks a significant step toward fulfilling a campaign pledge to reset Ghana’s governance architecture with stronger civic oversight and public participation.
