Former President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has joined world leaders in Luanda to participate in the 50th Independence Anniversary Celebration of the Republic of Angola, at the invitation of President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.

The event which brought together Heads of State, diplomats, and international dignitaries from across Africa and beyond was to commemorate five decades since Angola gained independence from Portugal on November 11, 1975.
Nana Akufo-Addo conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the Government and people of Angola, commending their progress in peacebuilding, governance, and development.
“I extend my best wishes to the Government and the friendly people of Angola, and thank them for the warm hospitality extended to me,” the President shared in a statement on his official page.

The Ghanaian former leader reaffirmed Ghana’s long-standing friendship with Angola and reminded the nation of the importance of African unity and regional cooperation in advancing prosperity across the continent.
“Long live Angola! Long live Ghana-Angola relations! Long live Africa!” he declared.

This year’s celebration, themed “Fifty Years of Freedom, Peace, and Development,” highlights Angola’s journey of resilience, reconstruction, and national transformation following years of civil conflict.
The ceremony also symbolizes the broader vision of African nations striving to deepen cooperation in trade, culture, and technology as part of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda of which Ghana is a key driver.
Both Ghana and Angola share strong historical and diplomatic ties rooted in Pan-African solidarity and shared development goals. The two nations continue to collaborate through platforms such as the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) to promote regional stability, innovation, and sustainable growth.
