Pope Leo XIV has issued a heartfelt appeal for peace in several conflict zones around the world, calling for an end to violence in Ukraine and Gaza, and welcoming a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Speaking from the Vatican, the Pope said he “carries in his heart the sufferings of the beloved Ukrainian people” and urged the international community to work towards “an authentic, just and lasting peace as soon as possible.” He also called for the release of prisoners and the safe return of displaced children to their families.
Turning his attention to the Middle East, Pope Leo expressed deep sorrow over the situation in Gaza. “Cease fire immediately,” he said. “Let humanitarian aid be provided to the exhausted civilian population and let all hostages be freed.”
On a more hopeful note, the Pope praised recent developments between India and Pakistan. “I am pleased by the announcement of the ceasefire… I hope that through the forthcoming negotiations a lasting agreement will soon be reached,” he stated.
The Pope’s remarks come amid escalating humanitarian concerns and renewed diplomatic efforts in several regions plagued by conflict.
