OKESS Student Arrested for Bringing Locally-Made Pistol to School

A 17-year-old student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in Kumasi has been arrested for allegedly bringing a locally-manufactured pistol to school.

The arrest was made after school authorities received a tip-off and alerted the police. Upon a search, the weapon was found in the student’s possession. The suspect has since been taken into custody for further investigation.

Ashanti Regional Police say the motive behind the act remains unclear, but they are treating the matter with urgency given the rising concerns over safety in schools.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has yet to issue a statement on the incident, but education stakeholders are calling for tighter security measures across second-cycle institutions.
