Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing it of lacking the discipline and reflection needed to return to government after its 2024 electoral defeat.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile on Saturday, May 3, 2025, Gyamfi responded sharply to remarks made during the NPP’s recent “Thank You Tour,” where former flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia attributed their electoral loss to the “arrogance of power.”

Gyamfi dismissed Bawumia’s comments as insincere and an attempt to shift blame. “Even now, they are pointing fingers at others instead of taking full responsibility. When Ghanaians were crying out, they danced offbeat. We warned them, but they refused to listen,” he stated.

He further criticised the party’s claims of repentance, saying, “It’s taken only four months in opposition for them to say they’ve changed, yet they are speaking more arrogantly than ever.”

Touching on Ghana’s economic recovery, Gyamfi rejected the notion that the NPP deserves credit. “That is simply not true. When they left office, the economy was in disarray. Growth has come through the IMF programme and two new oil fields added under President Mahama. Even the IMF said they missed performance targets,” he argued.

He also pointed to internal conflict within the NPP as evidence of the party’s unpreparedness. “They are fighting among themselves over just 1,000 cedis. Young party members are stabbing each other. This is not a party ready to govern,” he said, adding that the party is plagued by indiscipline and disorder.

In contrast, Gyamfi praised the current administration under President John Mahama, claiming the economy is stabilising. “Fuel prices are dropping, the cedi is gaining strength, and the dollar is stabilising. Ghanaians are seeing results.”

He concluded by urging the NPP to focus on rebuilding internally. “If they choose to keep fighting and harming themselves, that’s their decision. But Ghanaians have moved on.”
