The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed deep appreciation to all Ghanaians who participated in the “Enough is Enough” nationwide demonstration on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. In a press release following the event, the party conveyed its gratitude to citizens who stood in solidarity with the NDC’s call for transparency in the electoral process.

The demonstration was organized to demand a forensic audit of the voters’ register, a move the NDC deems crucial in ensuring fairness in upcoming elections. According to the party, the audit is necessary to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s democracy by guaranteeing that every vote cast truly counts. The press release emphasized that the event was more than a simple protest; it was a clear declaration by the people of Ghana that they will not tolerate any compromises on transparency and accountability in the country’s electoral processes.

“We, the people of Ghana, demand that the Electoral Commission (EC) uphold its commitment to fairness and integrity, as reflected in its motto: Transparency, Fairness, and Integrity. The NDC is simply asking the EC to live up to these principles,” the statement noted. The NDC strongly believes that a forensic audit of the voters’ register will enhance public trust in the electoral system and prevent any possible manipulation of electoral outcomes.

Although the demonstration has concluded, the NDC assured supporters that their struggle for electoral transparency is far from over. The party remains resolute in its stance and will continue to engage all relevant stakeholders, including civil society groups and international observers, to push for reforms. The NDC reiterated its unwavering commitment to exploring all available avenues to secure a transparent and credible electoral system ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The press release also acknowledged the peaceful conduct of demonstrators, highlighting that their discipline during the protest was a reflection of the seriousness with which Ghanaians view the integrity of their elections. The party concluded by reaffirming that it will not relent in its efforts until its demands for an audited voters’ register are met, calling on Ghanaians to remain vigilant and united in their pursuit of electoral justice.

The NDC’s leadership promised to provide further updates on their next course of action as they continue to advocate for electoral reforms, with the ultimate goal of ensuring a democratic process that is fair, transparent, and reflective of the will of the people.
