Hon. Davis Ansah Opoku, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, has expressed pride in the collective efforts of his constituents in combating illegal mining over the past four years.
In a post shared on his official Facebook account, Hon. Ansah Opoku emphasized that, according to the laws of Ghana, all mining activities require the consent of the local communities involved. He noted that the people of Mpraeso have made it clear that they oppose illegal mining, and he remains committed to preventing anyone from engaging in such activities in the constituency.
“It is on this premise that most of my people have expressed their opposition to illegal mining, and I am resolved not to allow anyone, whether from within or outside the constituency, to come and engage in it,” he stated.
He further revealed that in the last four years, they have successfully fought individuals and institutions attempting to mine illegally within the Mpraeso Constituency. The MP stressed that their resistance stems from the need to protect the lands and rivers that have sustained the community for generations.
“We say no to the destruction of our lands and river bodies that have fed us all these years, and we shall continue to resist any attempt to mine within our communities,” Hon. Davis Ansah Opoku affirmed.
The MP’s statement highlights the ongoing efforts in Mpraeso to preserve the environment and prevent the devastating effects of illegal mining, which threatens the livelihood and well-being of its residents.
