Ghanaian media personality Mona Gucci has sparked a heated online debate after taking a swipe at TikTok influencers, accusing them of falsely parading themselves as celebrities.
In a viral video making rounds on social media platform X, Mona Gucci did not mince words as she declared that TikTok content creators have not attained the status or impact required to be considered true celebrities. She argued that having a large following on social media does not equate to national influence or entertainment industry relevance.
“TikTokers, you are not celebrities. If everyone fears telling you, then let me do that,” Mona Gucci stated. “If you are a brand influencer, please influence your people on your page. The number of followers you have, they are the only people you influence. You don’t influence anything or anybody in Ghana.” The media personality went further to criticize the type of content produced by some influencers, suggesting that their activities lack substance and contribution to Ghana’s entertainment landscape.
“Apart from braiding your hair and a man dressing like a girl, what else do you do?” she questioned. “If persuasion to stop you from disrespecting the A-list celebrities fails, force will be applied.” Mona Gucci emphasized the need for humility and respect for those she considers true icons in the industry, such as Jackie Appiah, Nana Ama McBrown, Berla Mundi, and Cookie Tee. According to her, these figures have earned their places through years of consistency, professionalism, and national recognition unlike many social media personalities.
Her comments have ignited intense discussions online with some agreeing with her sentiments while others see her views as dismissive of the evolving influence of digital creators in the modern media space.
