Minority Demands Immediate Dismissal of COCOBOD CEO Randy Abbey

Randy Abbey Dismissal

The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament has called on President John Dramani Mahama to remove Dr. Randy Abbey, CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), citing concerns over his management during a challenging period for the cocoa sector.

The call follows the government’s announcement of a reduced cocoa producer price, now set at GH₵41,392 per tonne (GH₵2,587 per 64kg bag), down from GH₵51,660 per tonne. The Minority argues that this sharp reduction unfairly affects over a million cocoa farmers, many of whom are already struggling with rising costs and delayed payments.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy Committee, speaking on Thursday, February 12, 2026, stressed that COCOBOD leadership must be accountable and responsive to farmers’ needs. Critics contend that governance and management issues at the Board have worsened the sector’s challenges, making the CEO’s dismissal a necessary step toward protecting farmers’ livelihoods.
